Nice forum, just joined today,,but have been reading the posts for some time....
I am looking to buy a new Ariens 17/42 mower,,936064,,,17 hp Kohler and gear drive...
I live on a corner lot in town,,for the last 7 or 8 yrs,, I have been mowing with a old Murray 30" rear engine,8 hp Tecumseh,,with oil pump..
The Murray was used when I bought it,, it threw a rod last month,, so now, I am looking for a mower.....
I am 71 and had my left knee replaced,,and the right one is next, but putting it off for now....
The back and front yards are flat, the side yard is like 145 feet long and like 21 feet wide, that slopes from the fence down to the street,,like 30 degree's...
I was told by a friend that retired from a small engine shop that I needed a engine with a oil pump and gears in the rear end...
Have I made a good choice ???
Never had a problem with the slope and the old Murray,,at 290 lbs, I got enough traction......
Oh,,I have to mow in the winter,,like once or twice a month..
