My son put too much oil in on our JD E140 that we just got this past spring, ( 4 qts. instead of 2 ! ), ran the engine for just a minute, and then immediately shut it off when it began smoking.
He drained the oil, but when he started it again, it was still smoking. What should he do at this point? Hope he hasn't ruined the engine which is a 22HP Briggs n Stratton. Thanks for any advice you can offer!

It probably just needs to burn off any residual oil. I've overfilled one or two when i was starting in small engines,
Make sure the level is at the appropriate Full mark.
