I bought a used Honda 217, 19cc and it pulsed in idle. I read all that I could on the internet. Cleaned the carburetor, new plug and air filter, bought a tac at Northern Tool, went from the small in line fuel filter to a regular filter, adjusted the idle arm to 3400rpm, and still had no joy. I then ordered a new carburetor on e-bay and installed it. The Carburetor fixed the problem. The old carb might be fixable if I took it apart, but just cleaning the small holes and such did not do the trick...the new carb did. It now starts on first pull, idles smooth and steps up to the blade spin without much hesitation. Cuts great with the dual blades.

You did the right thing in replacing the carb, as it is much cheaper to replace, than trying to clean. Yes, sometimes cleaning will do the trick, at the price of Honda carbs it was a no brainer.

Congrats on the (new to you) mower...

If you would, drop me a Private Message with your name & mailing address, and the full serial number off the back of the mower deck...it's in the form of "MAGA-1234567" and I can update the Honda registration database to show you as the new owner. Honda asks for this information in the unlikely event there is ever a product safety recall and needs to contact you.

I can also give you some brief history on the mower...when it was sold new, what dealer, if any of the original 5-year warranty remains, etc. FYI, if there is any warranty left, it will transfer to you with this update.

As a new Honda owner, you'll probably want some Honda stickers too, so I can send you some...
