When PTO is engaged, get a screeching noise, black smoke, and burnt rubber smell. Apparently one of the pulleys siezed and the sound and smell are caused by the friction of belt passing the stuck pulley. Took the belt off and noticed all of the pulleys spin except the engine pulley and the right side deck pulley. Two of the blades spin freely but the one with the stuck pulley doesn't turn. So, my question is, how do I know if the pulley attached to the blade is bad? Also, how do I know if the engine pulley is bad (it doesn't spin when I try to twist it)?
to check the engine pulley remove the deck belt, and start the engine, engage the deck pulley and see if it is turning. Most likely if that was seized it would stall the engine when you engage the deck. So the other possibly problem is either something is jamming the blade on the one that won't turn, or the bearings in that spindle are siezed.
