Pull Flywheel on Briggs 16 HP V Twin,

Hi >< LakeRat1 >< I sure Could Use some Help!! I have a JD LT 166 Mower with a Briggs 16 HP V Twin Engine Mo # 303777, i need to get the starter off to replace the Bendix & it looks like i need to pull the flywheel, i have a puller but i dont know what size those bolt holes in the flywheel are, kind of seem they might be 7 mm, but not sure, once i can fine the size i need to find 2 bolts that size 3 in. long

You should not have to pull the flywheel. Post the type and code numbers so we can see which starter you have.

Do you have an Intek or vanguard engine?

Good Morning!! OK here is the Info - !6 HP Briggs V Twin Mo # 30377 Type 1147 - E1 -3660 Code 9708211 the Engine is on a JD LT 166 Lawnmower,

Rivets I dont see know which Engine type i have, all it has is that is a V Twin with cast iron cyl. liners
and there is a sticker saying John Deere !6 HP

EngineMan thanks for the Parts Page, But i can see what size the bolts are on the Puller, i would like to be able to buy just the bolts, being that i have a puller that will work if i Knew the bolt size & could fine 2 of them, if i have to go to plan B - i guess i could order a Puller, i saw on some where for about $ 16 Bucks Plus Shipping

Thank You'll for the Help, i will off the line most of the Day, Corn Harvest is in full swing Here in Northeast La. i spend my day Running a 500 Bu. Grain Cart Pull with a John Deere 8300, He Pulls that Cart Like a Big Man!!!!

Its 850 AM and in about a Hr. or so Hours we will be cranked up, Hopping for a Good Day, we need about another 8 to 10 days to finish up the corn harvest

You should be able to remove that starter without removing the flywheel. You might need a long reach Torx socket, because you don't have room for a standard one. If you feel more comfortable removing the flywheel, go for it.

Am with you "old fart" manual only say's.....

(Remove rotating screen and blower housing. Remove two starter motor mounting screws.)

So don't see why he needs to take off flywheel.

And I do believe that Briggs & Stratton are not Metric, unless they're have change in the last few years.

they are a 13mm swivel socket,actually the one briggs sells is the best because the socket is short enough,but a wrench will work.just takes time..alot of time lol
