I have a Cub Cadet 1541 I am working on & I had to take the PTO off & do some work to the engine & when I reinstalled it I turned it on & it didn't take long for it to get really hot & start smoking. After it cooled off I took a volt meter & it registered it at .001 & I know that it should read between 3 & 4 ohms. I also tested for power at the PTO & it isn't registering. could it get so hot that it shorted the switch out?

Step back and start from the beginning! You did such and such for a reason? These pto clutches are not rocket computers, but just huge electro-magnets, so you didn't cause this damage at all.

Don't panic, moreover, just take the advice here with a grain of salt....
