Hello, I am a homeowner who currently owns an Ariens 46 inch riding lawn mower. The lawn mower is practically new, however we have had substantial issues with this rider. I should mention we have had numerous riders in the past years....Currently we have a Kubota Tractor with the accessories about 8 years old, a John Deere that we have owned for about 10 years. We have had troubles with the transmission in this mower, we have been told by the repair shop they have now put in two transmissions, as well as replaced a spindle. This, with maybe 20 hours on this machine, max. What are we encountering here? We have never had this many issues with anything purchased, I believe the mower, still does not seem to be running correctly. There is extreme vibration just sitting still. When engaged, the vibration seemed to decrease? Any help or insight would be appreciated. What is going on with this mower???? Thanks, Susan PS the model is A22A46...

The model number that you gave doesn't show up in the Ariens parts lookup system, so I can't tell what it looks like. Normally the Ariens model number is a series of 6 numbers, with most starting with 9. Also any information you can provide as far as how it is used. Like used to tow a lawn cart, or roller. I think you have a situation of how it is used, with unrelated problems, and then topped off with just a faulty spindle.

Thank you for your response. The model number is 96046005601. We have twelve acres, with two other tractors, riders....This rider was used lightly, minimal hours to mow around the main structure. Yes, this was used to pull a lawn cart with lawn tools to flower gardens. No roller or other accessory. Thanks again. PS, I did look further on the internet and found similar situations....seems the tractor has a transmission that is plastic? Is that true? The engine is Briggs.

the tranny is a glass fiber cased transmission made by general transmission, GT for short. Pulling a lawn cart with garden tools shouldn't hurt the tranny, so I don't think that is the problem. Sounds like a manufacturer problem with the tranny, What model of Briggs engine do you have. Also the deck spindle may be unrelated and could be a fluke.
