Start with something simple, loosen the fuel cap and see if it runs better. If it does, clean the vent in the fuel cap. This has been an issue for some time, maybe due to the ethanol in the fuel, but the vent will clog up with dust while mowing too.

Hmm does sound like cap vent clogged or overheating how often do you clean the heat sinks? and when did u change oil last? and does it get shaken up bounced around alot? oil might be in places it shouldnt be.

I'm having kind of the same problem. Mine keeps flooding and soaking the spark plug, I keep getting told its the carb... but the mower only has 18hrs on it and the carb looks good. Floater looks to be working great. Then someone told me to check the oil and it had gas all in the oil, so I'm draining it and doing everything all over, but will this problem happen again?

check the oil and it had gas all in the oil,

This occures when a machine is tipped or is stored at an angle which upsets the float angle. Either way fuel is getting past the float needle and seat then into your crankcase. It could be a float with a leak in it, or simply a dirty needle and seat
