Things do get damage or lost in shipping. Sometimes it is because the vendor and sometimes it is the shipper. These packages goes thru many hands before they arrive. If it is the initial packer's fault they need to know this so they can correct it on future shipments.
I usually call the vendor about poor packaging so they can improve things. Sometimes it just poor quality tape and they need to use a stronger tape. One of the worst shippers is Amazon with their minimum packaging scheme. I have even received packages that look like someone have stomp them.
Most shippers are good, carefully, and deliver on time except for one; the USPS. I have had to make it to my local TN distributor [next to the to last stop before delivery] to only to get sent all the way out West to states like CA, AZ, and CO. Those packages were to sent to my local post office instead took a vacation run out West.
Also note there are thieves in the system too that remove contents and pretend they got lost. Only a matter they get caught. A lot those items end up on eBay and Facebook market places.
