Hello folks,

I have a bit of a strange problem with my Briggs & Stratton 500 series motor: it behaves normal for a few seconds, then starts sputtering a somewhat longer time, and goes back to normal for a few seconds. There is also a strong smell of gasoline when using it. I made a short video to illustrate:

I also zoomed in on the spring system. Is it possible that I did something wrong last time I did a small repair? (it wasnt starting anymore, cleaned out everything...)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Briggs had a problem with the main jet falling out of the carb a few years back which showed the same symptoms as the video described.

All you can do is strip the carb down and look under the silver gauze for the jet lying at the bottom of it or if its slightly dislodged.

If it is then new carb required.
