Primer Bulb Squirts Gasoline From The Side When I Press It

I own a Murray lawn mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine that I purchased from Walmart for about $150. It closely resembles the lawn mower at the link below. When I press on the primer bulb, it doesn't fill up with gasoline like it's supposed to. After closer inspection, I realized that the gasoline that's supposed to be going in the primer bulb is actually squirting out of the side where I believe a cap or tube used to be. I'm guessing this part fell off the last time I used it. Do you think this is the problem? And if so, which part am I missing? The lawn mower has been sitting in storage for about 10 months.

Get us the model, type and code off of the briggs engine so we can see what engine you actually have on your mower. Some mowers push air to prime, some push fuel. the one in the picture pushes air to prime. So if you need to push fuel then we need more information.

Thanks for the help. I think I drew the wrong conclusion about what was happening because I poured gas in the carburetor before I pressed the primer bulb. Perhaps that's why it was squirting out of the side. The problem I'm experiencing may actually have something to do with the fuel line or carburetor being clogged up with dirt because when I press the primer bulb without pouring gas in the carburetor, the primer bulb doesn't fill up with gas like it's supposed to. And when I do pour gas in the carburetor, it starts for a few seconds and cuts off after that small amount of fuel is used up. This tells me that something is blocking the consistent flow of gas to the engine. I'll take the mower apart tomorrow to see if I can figure out what's wrong.
