- Changed oil/filter. However, I did not fill up the oil to required limit as mower was on a slight incline. Added only 1/2 quart
- started very well - put into gear and started to move mower to level ground.
- Then the sound came! Like I dropped a tool into the engine! !@#$%...
- Stopped the mower and checked the dip stick - No oil level - white smoke - forgot that oil filter was dry and that any oil put into engine would go directly to filter...
- When I turn flywheel by hand there is no real resistance - after each revolution there's a clunking sound...
What have I done Can I salvage? what are my next steps?

Rarely, you can salvage an engine, but usually when it throws a rod it hits the came, or cracks the wall of the block. If not, you can buff off the pasted on aluminum off of the crankshaft and install a new rod. But you will have to dis-assemble it to find out
