Please help! Walk Behind: Safety bar no longer works.

Hi y'all. Hope someone can help me!!

36" Walk Behind commercial mower: Honda HRC-7013 from around 2001.

The safety bar no longer works. If I turn the blades on or put it in gear, it's shuts off like I'm not even holding onto the safety handles even though I am.

I replaced the ignition and 4 other switches: one for the blades, one for the safety bar, and two for putting it in gear. I tested them all before installing them and they work.

I'm not sure what that "ball switch" they have listed in the diagram is. I couldn't find it connected to my wiring harness anywhere.

I really like this mower, and everything else on it is good. I've been restoring it a little at a time. I'm just scared to not have a safety shut off in case of an emergency.

Here's a link to the wiring diagram parts listing if it helps:

Have you adjusted the rods? You need to see if the rod is moving what it needs to.

Thanks for the response. When I pull the safety levers I can hear the switch click, but I'll put a meter on there and double check.

From the shop manual...this ought to help a bit:

Thanks Rob!

I'll double check the wires are all going where they should, and are not cut or broken anywhere. Also that there's a good ground for the module.

If all checks out, I have a feeling it may need a new module/wiring harness, and looking online, it doesn't appear they're available anymore

Honda part number: "32170-VE4-003"
Do you know if there's a replacement for that part number?

Or an aftermarket module that would work?

Thanks again for the drawing!!

Anyone know if I could wire up a generic SPDT relay?

Wiring it like this: http://i.imgur.com/R4w2ubf.jpg

By default, without power, the relay would put the positive to ground. Same as if the ignition switch is in the off position.

I'm not sure if the 12v needed to power the relay (put it in "on" position) would be provided at startup. In other words, is there enough 12v juice when I pull it over to get the relay to flop over to the 'null' side and allow the mower to fire up.

Yeah, that part has been gone from Honda warehouses for a long time now. No replacement available, nor do I know of any third-party one that could be use, sorry.

Maybe you could find a donor harness from another unit?

There are some guys on a Honda tractor forum that are very sharp with electrical repairs. Try posting here:

Check the safety bar switch, can't see you wanting a new wiring loom.
