First time poster hoping for some expert advice.
I believe that I've sheared a woodroof key on the flywheel, I have spark, fuel and compression so timing is the only wildcard at the moment.
I'm hoping for some advice or instruction on how to remove the darn plastic flywheel shroud so I can pull the flywheel and verify. There seems to be some sort of bolts/pins/thingamobobs on the lower portion of the plastic fan cover/shroud and I can't figure out what they are or how to remove them! I can't see them, my old fingers don't recognize them as a bolt etc. I can't see them and I really don't want to start breaking things but my frustration is getting me close...
I can't lay my hands on an inspection mirror at the moment and I'm pulling my hair out, any info/assistance is greatly appreciated!

Check out items 1212 and 1335 from this diagram. Looks like a stud with a nut to hold the housing on.
Parts lookup and repair parts diagrams for outdoor equipment like Toro mowers, Cub Cadet tractors, Husqvarna chainsaws, Echo trimmers, Briggs engines, etc.
Thank you both so much!
You are correct, I pulled a variety of other parts & pieces off and was able to see them. There are 2 plastic protrusions on either side of the housing, I could see/feel those and I thought they were connection points but they are not.
Well, this is unfortunate...
The woodruff key is intact and as it should be. I'm trying to do a bit more research and having difficulty finding the correct repair manual.
The serial number of my engine is 613477-2186-J1, Everything I see lists serial #'s between 540000 to 610000 but nothing in my serial range. I did find a notation in a manual for models except 540000 - 610000, this is a bit confusing and I don't want to use the incorrect specs for re-assembly and setting everything up.
If I have to purchase a manual I will (that hurts my soul...) but I don't want to buy the wrong one. Can I get some guidance from the knowledgeable please!
Thank you again!

The 613477-2186-J1 is not the serial but is the model, type, and trim code. The manual you are looking for is the 80114787 Vanguard BIG BLOCK 54, 61 Diagnostic and Repair manual.
Here is a link to revision A manual but there is a Revision B that is not available online. Both covers the 54 and 61 series engine except for EFI versions.
