Plastic transmission

I've got 2 YT3000 with no or very little reverse. Any fixes? Or is just plastic junk?

How does the belt look? Post the units model and serial numbers, located under the seat. Might just need a belt and a couple of pulleys.

The belt is brand new. With the rear end lifted and the wheels off the belt is turning the trans, but as soon as a load is put on everything stops

We really need the model numbers off the two mower from the serial number tags. As when I tried looking up the mowers I came with three different transaxles being over the years and RS800 wasn't one of them. That don't mean the RS800 wasn't used, it just that I may have not found the correct IPL.

Also just because belt is new doesn't mean all the plastic idler pulleys are good. The V-idlers are especially prone the wearing allowing the belt to bottom out in the groove and effectively lengthening the belt. Also you need to install the correct length belt for the model you are working. As I said there is at least three different drive belts used depending which transaxle used.

2 mowers both models 944.604260
Mower 1 ser.#050314A001991
Mower 2 ser#042514A002139
Both use belt # 197253
Mower1 has limited reverse, mower 2 has no reverse, both belts are turning the transmission
Both mowers are Canadian

Review this service bulletin and see if this is your transaxle. If it is it contains information that may help you diagnose the problem. If not I’ll do some more checking. https://apache.ariens.com/manuals/B-2153.PDF

I ran all the external tests and it does not turn rear wheels as per reverse function test. Its hard to turn and only one wheel wants to engage.

Did you replaced the belt with an OEM or aftermarket belt?

OEM

There is two drive belts. One from the engine to the transaxle and the one that actually is on the transaxle.

Now the 197253 (532197253) is listed as 1/2 x 100.97". This belt was superseded to 592855001 which is 1/2 x 100.25". Also I have seen both v-idler to wear out on this system causing belt slippage under load.

Both idlers look good and the belt measures 100 and 1/4 ". The mower doesn't seem to slip in forward gears, only in reverse.

The second belt Star is talking about is Hydro belt #21549025. You may have replaced the engine to hydro belt, but you never said you replaced the other belt. If this unit came to me this is what I would do. You may need an assistant to do this. 1. Remove the battery and battery case. You should now be able to see the top of the hydro. 2. Remove the seat safety switch from the seat and clamp it with a small C-clamp to close the switch. 3. Jack up the rear end and support it on two jack stands. 4. Use jumper cables to connect the battery to the battery cables. 5. Set the parking brake. 6. Start the engine and release the parking brake. You should now be able to observe the hydro operation through the opening where the battery case was. 7. Have an assistant operate the foot pedal while you observe the hydro operation. Go back and forth, between forward and reverse, both freewheeling and holding the tires. You will be looking to see if anything changes, particularly during reverse operation.

I’m thinking you will find that the hydro belt is slipping due to wear. You and others may disagree with this procedure, which is fine, just thought I’d give you my way of diagnosing tranny problems.

I don't where Rivets came up the PN he did but not GTI or Husqvarna PN.

Here is the Husqvarna PN along with the GTI alternate PN. Personally I would buy the GTI as it is about $20 less than the Husqvarna belt. Now prices vary depending on the source for the part.

GTI = General Transmission Inc.

This site gave me the hydro part number, Transaxle, Gentrans Variator #580486301. https://www.gardena.com/tdrdownload//pub000069079/doc000118063

As that hydro is used by Ariens I used that number on PartsTree which gave me the belt number. https://www.partstree.com/models/rs...eneral-transmission/transmission-580486301-0/

There’s more that one way to get info when you don’t have dealer status. Just takes a little longer.

I hope that is OK with you, StarTech?

Rivets just wish you had spec that the PN was an Ariens PN which my distributor does not carry so it did not show up but since I now got the Ariens PN I will add to my system as an alteranate PN..

As I said didn't know why you found that number here is my updated inventory screen showing the addition alternate PN now. There is probably other PNs out there too that neither of us have ran across yet. BTW the cost shown was when I brought the belt last Fall which hasn't changed yet this year.
