Saw this on local CL. Picking up later today:

Snapper Lawn Mower

If he's talking about the rear axle, that may be easier to replace than to repair. I had one that was bad and I just swapped it out with a spare one. Look like a mulching deck too, if so it will definitely mulch easier than a hi-vac deck with that ninja blade.

I'm looking to take best of both this and my HiVac Big Six to cobble together best of both worlds.

Good news is it's electric. Bad news is the front wheels are fubar. Will take pics over weekend. Here's model:

Wheels are east to find. That electric start not so much. That's very cool. Even if u don't always use it it's neat to have.

No battery. Where do you buy?

Is there a store near u that specializes in just batteries? Out here there are a couple stores like that, they sell all kinda of batteries. I'd start by looking for a store like that. Or if not try searching online for batteries.

Well I see why PO didn't bother to wash grass off. LR tire is fubar. Wonder if that was due to problem with transaxle putting power to one side only?

Also nice crack in top plastic shield. Looks like this mower went through a lot!

Those batteries look like they will work. $18 sounds good. Not sure about the axle situation though, I've never tackled anything like that. So are u wanting to swap the electric start parts into your mower then?

That mower hasn't went through anything man. A crack in plastic and poopy axle/wheel ain't nothing. Rip that wheel off and replace it, I'd replace with steel wheels, I like those wider handle bars on the newer models

Not sure what to do. I was thinking it would be nice to have one set up for mulching and one for bagging. But this is going to take a lot of work/money to get it to point I'd want it at. Deck is pretty beat up.

So I may just swap the electric motor over to mine as well as anything like the speed control linkage where mine is bent. Have to think this through as well as test motor.

This battery comes with LCD display. I see a charger is listed as OEM. Do you need to keep a trickle charge on these? No recharge on mower? Never had electricstart before.

Thanks! I actually like the older handle but will give this one try if I get it running. Are they swappable?

What year is it?

PO said it was purchased 10 years ago. Are there any codes that would identify year?

First digit in s/n is last digit in year made. Serial number starting with "7" is a 1987, or 1997 or 2007. Telling the difference in the decade is from other attributes of the mower. I know '70s and '80s but not much beyond that. The series number will denote how new also. Series 0,1,2,4 and 5 are from like '79 thru '89. '90 I think started series 6.

And if you look under the mower shrout, there are numbers stamped to the block. the last set of numbers, look at the first two numbers in the last set. Those two numbers identify year.

Will look. Since serial # starts with 8 I'm betting 98

Looks like engine is 97

#21

Same year as my Hi Vac

#22

The engine was built in '97 but based on the mower s/n the mower was built in '98.

Just remembered I swapped engines on my Hi Vac after bending crank. That one is a 96 mower

The only snapper I ever bought new was a 1998 basic homeowner-edition 21" sp with a 5hp briggs. Opted for the z-fold bag instead of the door flap. I didn't write down the s/n or anything, I didn't get that OCD about it all until after I sold it in spring 2010. Still kinda miss it, mainly because I got it new.

Don't remember the z-fold option. I doubt there was much difference in torque between 5-6 hp.
