I've been cleaning this LB up and found a few problems. Feel free to jump in on any of them. 1. The starting rope is pulled all the way out..What to do? 2. The primer is broken on top. Do I need both parts of the primer to repair? 3. Where the throttle cable Z end goes into the carb linkage is broken. Need to get another one. The throttle cable is not broken, only the linkage...Some of the bolts were loose on the muffler, and at least one on the motor mounts. Thread loc a good idea? Thanks

You have to take the recoil starter apart to see if the spring is broken. You have to take off the metal fan shroud (underneath the plastic gas-tank shroud) to do this. The whole recoil starter is held together with one central screw...you will see it when you look underneath. Be careful and reassemble all the parts exactly as you remove them. It's possible there is rust on the moving parts preventing the
rope from being withdrawn. You need to use Red Locktite on each and every bolt on a mower like this. The motor mounts (4 bolts) are only accessable after you remove the muffler. The bolts visible on the underside of the deck outside the muffler area, hold down the muffler plate to the deck. They should be tight also. Don't forget to use Locktite (take bolts out, coat with locktite, replace.) The Primer rubber cup comes off the white plastic base. Both are available, but you may only need the rubber part. However, the white primer base is a type of plastic that becomes brittle with age, so it may break when you try to pull a new rubber bulb on over it. There are cheaper after-market vendors for some parts.

Okay, I've gotten the part to fix the throttle, and a new primer body and bulb, already installed. I've taken the phillips screw out of the recoil starter and the spool is frozen up in the housing. I have squirted a lot of Kroil in and around it but it does not want to come loose. Any tricks?

Still no luck with the recoil coming off so I ordered a good working shroud off fleabay and then I'll try to get her started. I can't wait to have a running Lawn Boy!

I Locktited the muffler and motor mount bolts, installed a used but good pull starter shroud and got it running after cleaning the glop out of the bottom of the carb. Then I cleaned up the rust on the handlebars and painted them flat black. Did the same to the rust on the deck, and painted it VHT Grabber Green (an exact match) and it runs and looks great! Thanks to all of you especially Walt for your help...

And the best part is I just sold it this afternoon off Craigslist! Thanks for all your help!
