over reving

i have a 99 cub cadet 3225, 21 hp kohler while mowing the engine started over reving. i can bring idle down by moving arm on front of lingage but when throttle is moved rpm goes to max. maybe a failed govenor? need help.

Post your model numbers and I'll send you a procedure to check and adjust the governor.

:smile: Either the governor likage has slipped or the governor has failed. I would take Rivets suggestion and then try adjusting the governor. If adjusting the governor does not work, then you will have to pull the engine and get inside to see whats going on. I hope its just a gov. adjustment. Good luck.
