Over charging

I have a Ariens with a Briggs & Stratton engine Model 31c7073346g5. It was made on 3/19/2012. It is over charging the battery, it slowly goes up to 16 volts.
It doesn't have a voltage regulator. I replaced the alternator that has the diode in the wiring. It still over charges. If the battery is weak would that cause it to over charge?

Thanks

Here is a service manual for Briggs engines, which explains the procedure for testing the charging system. When you post back please identify which charging system your have. https://www.briggsandstratton.com/c...a/en_us/Files/FAQs/alternator_replacement.pdf

It's the dual circuit.

Did you do any of the tests listed in the manual? How old is the battery?

It does need a new battery, would that make it over charge?

It could, but you need to open the manual I attached, read portions and try doing some of the tests.

That is a very good electrical manual. Thank you for posting. I now have it saved in bookmarks.

I would download it because Briggs and their links disappear all the time. Old engine IPL's and such are not where they used to be. Get it while the get ins' is good.
