Opinions needed on mower purchase

I currently have a 2011 Toro Timecutter SS4235 and I HATE it. There is always something wrong with it and it's being worked on more than being mowed with. When it's working I don't have a complaint with the cutting. I also pull a large EZ-vac lawn vacuum in the fall and winter picking up leaves which it seems a bit underpowered for.

Here are my requirements/lawn specs. Let me know what you think would be a good fit for me.
- Mow a little over 3 acres
- Yard is heavily wooded so I'm pulling an EZ-vac in the fall and winter. Needs to have plenty of power to pull this
- I've gone back and forth between a zero turn and a lawn tractor (since I'm pulling the vac) and keep coming back to wanting a zero turn because of having 3 acres to mow
- I thought about a Kubota diesel for the pulling power but my yard stays fairly wet for part of the year and I'm thinking the weight might tear it up to bad (and I think they are out of my price range)
- I have a lot of hickory trees so I'm always mowing a ton of hickory nuts if that makes any difference (maybe they are tough of the blades/deck (I don't really know))

Thanks for any help you can give

Look for good used Kubota at dealer or individual sale, preferably low hours.

If your lawn stays wet then any mower will damage it once the wheels start to slip. I don't think you need a diesel mower to pull your EZ-vac. There are some great ztr mowers out there that will handle that job with ease. You didn't mention what your budget is, but you are asking about recommendations for a 3 acre lawn. First you need to find out what brands are available in your area. Some mowers worth checking into would be the Hustler Fastrack or Fastrack sd, Husqvarna mz or mzt, Gravely zthd, Kubota Kommander, Snapper Pro s50xt, or s125xt, Ferris is600, Toro Titan, Exmark pioneer e series or s series, Scag freedom z or liberty z, etc. there are so many great options out there that will suit your needs. All of the major brands offer great products. Some are just a little more affordable than others. Look around at the brands available in your area and go with the one you like best. if you are looking for used mowers, then any model I mentioned or models up from them would be worth looking at.

Btw, what part of Tennessee are you in? I am in Crockett County (West Tennessee).

Not far from you. I live in Jackson. Thanks for all of the recommendations. I'm looking in the 5k or less range preferably.

You may want to check with Hills repair. Great dealer who sells ferris and snapper pro mowers located just off I 40 on exit 66. You can get a 48" s50xt for less than $5k. Also have 61" s125xt or a 48" ferris is600 near the $5k range. They also sell husqvarna. They are a small dealer but have a great inventory of mowers to choose from. That's where I purchased my s150xt in 2012. I love my mower. I mow 4.2 acres with it.

Shughes - sounds like you guys have a great dealer close buy. That seems to be about 75% of the battle nowadays huh?

Oh yeah. I believe a great dealer should factor into a decision when making a purchase, be it a mower, or a car/truck.
