I have a 7hp Briggs that I received from a friend and I put oil in the spark plug whole because he said he could not remember the last time it was running. I replaced the recoil clutch because it was worn out but I would like to know what kind of a carb I have and how to adjust it. It runs very rich.

Model 170702
Type 1015-01
Code 72120810

This was on a silver sticker on top of the shroud

The carb you have is a Briggs Flo-Jet carb. To adjust it do the following. Initial settings for your carb are; 1&1/2 turns out from lightly seat for the high speed needle valve. That is the one coming in from the bottom. 1&1/4 turns out from lightly seated for the idle needle valve. That is the on the top. I would first remove the nozzle going down from the top and make sure it is clean. After you have it running, at full throttle, adjust the high speed needle in until the engine starts to bog and then out 1/4 turn. Then go to idle speed and adjust the idle needle in until it starts to bog and then out 1/8 turn. Hope this helps.
