Old 4HP Snapper Walk-behind Mower. Need small belt on self-propelled.

The Self-propelled Drive Disk turns fine but the belt from the Transmission to the wheel slips. The Briggs Engine is 4HP as noted in title. The throttle cable rubbed on the Engine shroud and wore the stamped numbers off. I am guessing Mower from the early 80's. But with no Model numbers, not sure what belt I need? The Mower is old enough that there are aero safety devices. If it is running, the Blade is turning.

The belt has a tensioning adjustment. The engagement spring is actually a spring screwed inside another spring. Just unhook it from the rod and shorten it a round or three and see if that helps. The engine numbers won't help when searching for a belt, you'll need the numbers from the mower. Usually on a sticker near the drive disc. Probably a number like 21401P or similar.

Whoever owned it before me decided to paint the Deck and anything that was in the way with Red paint. I bought it at an Estate Sale for $40. Everyone said it's a $5 Mower. That old Briggs runs perfect now with zero smoke. I have 11 Mowers, some I've fully restored. I really want a 2-cycle LawnBoy but getting hard to find here. Here in Portland Oregon area, Petrol Mowers seem difficult to sell. Everyone here seems to want Battery Mowers or to hire a Landscaper. I just sold a fully restored Honda HR-194-SX. I had re-ringed the Engine, painted with OEM paint, new tires, new BBC pads/bearings, and OEM bag. Got $125 for it. Had lots of money and time into. Lost big but was a fun project. TheCraftsman/MTD AWD in the picture went today for $95. That one required too many repairs.

I'll check for the adjustment. I know the Belt looks badly glazed. Here's a picture of just 9. The old Snapper is second from the far right. Thank you for the advice!

It could be a 214X1P

That's a V series mower from the late '70s. We sold a lot of the 3.5 HP, and I remember the model # being V212P. Yours being 4 HP, it may be V214P, or maybe V212P4. V212P will get you whatever you need for the mower part.

I wish you lived closer to the Hoosier state. I'd send you home with two 19" Snappers to add to your collection.

Cool for the Snapper information. When I sharpened and balanced the Blade, it was severely out-of-balance. The blade material is super thick. I'm not it love with this old Snapper but I don't think I should sell it to anyone due the the fact they could be stupid and cut off their feet or hands and in Oregon. would sue for everything you own. We would like to leave Oregon but are both near 70 years old and it might be hard to start over somewhere else. My favorite Mower is on the far left in the Picture. It's a Toro Commercial with the 5.5HP Suzuki 2-stoke engine. I'd have to look but I think it's a Model 22043. I bought it to piss off my Neighbor who yells at me whenever he has the chance because my Mowers are ruining the Planet. So the 2-stroke puts him into a Coma.
