I know this is a stupid question for many of you, but… does a vertical shaft 8hp flat head use the oil dipper on the end of the rod? It seems like it wouldn’t get down into sump to do any good. And I’ve already been to the tool crib looking for the board stretcher. Mercy please, first rebuild.

Well most vertical using the oil slinger/ governor assy. But to be sure lookup the engine's IPL.
But wonder if you have found that adjustable metric crest wrench yet? The Lowe's tool guy here is still looking for one.
