a few weeks ago i purchased a new turf tiger with a 35 hp briggs and 61 inch cut. picked it up on a monday and got it out on the following Wednesday afternoon to do some mowing and it wouldn't run worth a flip. Took it back to the dealer and after tinkering with it a few they gave me a demo with 8 hours on it to use. Only difference is that it's the liquid cooled fuel injection, which is about $2800 more than mine was.

They called me about mine a few days after I took it in and said something about the diaphragm in the carb and said they were just going to order a new carb for it. Haven't heard back from them since. I probably should have asked more questions but I'm no mechanic and they would have probably been talking over my head.

Since its been like two weeks and I haven't heard from them I'm going to give them a call. Was just wondering others thoughts on whether I should just demand a different new mower or what. It's a large tractor dealership that recently became a scag dealer. At the time they didn't have any more mowers.

At first I thought no big deal. Just keep their demo and put the hours on it and mine will still be new when I get it. I guess I'm having some second thoughts about that logic now.

I would call them and ask about the work progress & see what they say. When they repair yours make sure you are satisfied with the machine, if not, get a brand new machine or money back.

I too would give them a call and if you feel uncomfortable with the answer ask to talk to the highest person possible. If you don't comfortable let them know that you will be calling Turf Tiger and then do it. If they are a new dealer, they probably have not set up with a Tech Rep with the company yet, and drawing at straws. Now is the time to put the pressure on. Turf Tiger is a good machine and if the dealer is any good he should be bending over backwards to help you. I don't think Turf Tiger will be happy if they heard your story.

I would call the dealer to get an update on the status. If you feel it necessary you can contact Scag and Briggs & Stratton. If you decide to contact them, get the machine model and serial number and the engine numbers and date of sale beforehand. This info should be on the bill of sale and warranty paperwork. You can contact both by email from their websites in the contact us links. Their phone numbers will need to be searched for if you prefer direct contact which these days is not very direct.
You do have a machine to use which is more than some dealers would provide.

The 'new dealer' to Scag worries me. They may not be too familiar with fixing something they just took on, especially since its a brand new machine.
If it were me I'd go into the dealership as soon as possible and find out exactly what is going on with your machine. It could be as simple as them waiting on a part for it, but they should have been keeping you in the loop all along. Just because they don't have other machines on hand to choose from doesn't mean you ought to have to wait weeks for ??? while they distract you with a 'demo'. Are you certain your machine wasn't a demo when you got it? How many hours on the clock at purchase?
I'd want to see my actual machine in the shop or wherever it sits. Talk to the dealer owner/manager and find out what is what. I'd wait until speaking with the dealer before calling Scag direct of anyone else for that matter.
BUT, think about the treatment you've gotten so far- is this what you want going forward from this dealer? Is your machine for personal or commercial use?

i called my dealer the other day after not hearing from them for so long. they said the carb had been on back order and had came in that day and when they opened it there was a broken piece laying in the box so they called the company and another one was to be shipped out that day. so, all isn't that bad other than the fact they left me hanging for so long.

i received a call from the company owner today and he said it should be ready by the first of the week and he will deliver it to me. the few times i have talked to him he seems to know what he's talking about. i went to this dealer because they were closer than my previous one. i moved a couple of years ago and hate those long drives. so, hopefully all will work out.

Finally got my mower back. After putting about 30 hours on theirs and breaking it in for them I can now to that to mine, for it only has barely over an hour on it. Runs like a charm so hopefully I'll have no more problems with it.

Well, after many other issues with my mower including it pretty much doing the same thing it was doing before they replaced the carb they have agreed to give me a new one. I thought it was all good and we had that dry spell and i didn't have to mow for six weeks. But like i said it started acting up again so i took it back to them. Now i have to decide if i want to sell it before even using it or keep it.

You may have just gotten a lemon on the first one, who knows? Looks like we won't be mowing for a long time, the grass is brown and crunchy.

yeah, we had a major dry spell and i went six weeks without mowing. then when i had to mow it crapped out on me. i had a smaller scag before this one for six years with only a couple of minor problems during that time. but after what i've gone through with this one i sometimes think i should have went with the john deere. dealers are closer and i have a gator anyway. who knows, maybe when i get my new scag tomorrow i'll go trade it for a deere before i even mow with it.
