Odd Logo on NOS D-400 short block

Hello...
I recently acquired a NOS D-400 short block. It's an early D-400 as it has the extended casting with the second bushing at the bottom end of the crank shaft. There is no number cast in the block but it has a half square with the letters C D C cast in it. The end fin on the cylinder also has the same logo... a half square with the letters C D C. I have never seen this on any Lawn Boy piece ever. I'm wondering if this was manufactured by an outside source for Lawn boy or what??? Also the bearing cap on the connecting rod has socket head screws instead of hex head and there is no room there for keepers. I have never seen that before either.

So does anyone have an idea as to what I have?
Thanks Jim H.

So I'm guessing that it was sitting on a shelf for about 40 years... :cool2:

Where did you find it? What mower will it go on?

Sorry but I can't answer your question. :ashamed:

I just snagged it off of e-bay. If you search Lawn Boy and go to completed or sold listings you should still be able to view pictures of the block and the logo is visible in the pictures. The block is the type found on the early sixties bricktop mowers. I'm in the process of restoring two bricktops.

It's even older than I thought. Please post some pictures of your old bricktops.
