Hi all, I have an old Sthil Viking Ride on mower with a Briggs and Stratton motor mod: 283707 Type: 0217-01. Used to rum perfectly but lost spark one day. Found out it was the armature magneto. I replaced the magneto and it started first time, thought the problem was solve. It wouldn't start the second time I used it (Magneto again totally dead) Bought another magneto, installed it and again it worked fine. Went to use the mower today and the magneto is again dead?? Anyone had this issue? can anyone tell me why this is happening. Note both new magnetos were set correctly, flywheel locking pin is solid.

Replace the ignition switch and make sure you get the correct switch. One size does not fit all here.
Rust or a cross leakage will intermittently send a voltage on the kill wire to the magneto and kill the electronics immediately.
One test would be to leave the ignition switch kill wire disconnected from the magneto, but you will have to kill the engine at the spark plug, or choke the engine or leave the ignition switch kill wire disconnected from the magneto and temporary install a separate kill wire at the mag that you ground to kill the engine.
Lets us know your results.

Be really sure when replacing lawn tractor ign switches. Just because the wiring harness plug with fit onto the switch does not make it the correct one. Good idea is too verify they are same configuration internally with a ohmmeter before installing because sometimes even new replacements are wrong from the vendor.
If you install the wrong one several things can get damaged with smoke.
I've got a bucket full of lawn tractor ignition switches that I've saved as donor replacements and several different terminal configurations that the same wiring harness plug will fit.
