no ignition

someone gave me a murry 17.5 42 inch cut and he said the mice got into the ignition.his brother tells me it will run if I jump the solenoid.battery is dead and don't charge.im wondering if I should spend the money to see if it will run.battery cables,starter and solenoid cables are all connected.i don't care about the lights I just want it to run and charge

If it starts if you jump it then the mice havent caused much problem.
Try a new battery.
