I've never had a riding mower but most claim to have a shift on the go where I don't need to use
the clutch. Yet when talking to sales people they say I need to. I don't get it help!

MTD claims shift on the go, which worked as afar as upshifting, but had to clutch to downshift, but it actually used a variable pulley to change speeds not transmission gears. Murray years ago had a shift on the go, that would engage the clutch when you pulled the shifter handle out of the notch to shift gears, then would release the clutch when it slid back into a gear notch. Hydrostats don't use a clutch to change speeds, Just needed when starting the mower.
