My yard was a real mess when I bought my house, 11 years later, it is looking good.
Now it looked good the last few years, so it didn't take me a full 11 years to turn it around.
ALSO we've had a very rainy spring so far, which is why it looks exceptionally good at this very moment.
Still its nice to have such a nice lawn. When I first bought the house, all I did was mow it, and try to clean up all of the brush and vines and random piles of crap that were piled up all over the yard. Then a few years in, we had a very hot drought year and my crabgrass exploded. And that was the year I really started to want to have a nice lawn. So I started putting down fertilizer and weed killer and grass seed. I also switched from mowing short to mowing tall. And I also spend many hours pulling huge areas of crabgrass by hand. Now I get VERY little each year, just a few scattered individual growths.
I'm going to try planting a row of three smallish trees across the middle of the back yard, and two japanese maples at the far back edge, basically right behind the camera. It should look nice. And if I doesn't, my saws are sharp
