OK..I'll jump in. Just found this baby on Craiglist for 50 bucks. Planning on a whole rebuild. I've got a brand new Briggs that will come off a piece of crap weedeater my brother had..about 5 hours on it. Think I'll have any trouble swapping it out? It's an 8.75 horse. found some brand new back wheels and tires online, so I'm gonna spring for a new seat, and front tires, take it completely down, and paint/powdercoat the entire rig...wish me luck haha. BTW, i am a young 54 year old,in the printing business, residing in south carolina..thanks and glad to be here!

Welcome to the forum. That Snapper RER looks just like the one I owned. Mine was 24 years old and still cutting when I came across a deal I just' couldn't pass up and I bought a newer, used mower. You will have a lot of fun restoring that mower and make sure to post some pictures of the process and completed project.

As far as the engine swap goes, you'll have to check crankshaft diameter & length, engine bolt pattern, exhaust location, etc. You may have to do some fabrication but what the heck it's a restoration project and you can make it any way you want. Have fun.

thanks, looks like I'll be picking up a few cans! I've noticed in all the painting pics I've seen that no one seems to put on primer. Think that's overkill?

Actually. I do put primer on it rustoleum rust reformer. It usually takes two cans of that then 4 cans of krylon. I also use a wire sander on my power drill and sand most if it to bare metal. A lot of work but worth it in the end check out some of my work
