New ZTR mower with oil level problem

My parents recently purchased a new RZT L54 mower from Tractor Supply, and are having issues with the engine not starting due to "low oil". It has a 24hp Kohler. Checking the oil, it's always full, but will not turn over (low oil light on). Adding a bit of oil seems to fix things until the next time it is used.

They've had to add oil twice just to get it running, meaning it's now well above the "full" mark on the dipstick. Speaking with Tractor Supply, they suggest changing the oil to remove any contaminants. We have 2 warranty shops in our area, however the warranty from TC doesn't include pick-up.

Could this be a faulty oil level switch, or might changing the oil possibly help? The mower now has ~7 hours on it.

Thanks for any help!

What is the exact hours on the unit?

It now has 8.5 hours. My Dad changed the oil and filter, per their recommendation. Filling the crankcase to the "full" line on the dipstick, it wouldn't start. Adding a bit of oil allowed it to start, and run without issue.

Getting frustrated.

Thank you for your response.

Not familiar with the switch type used. Try to get a picture of a replacement switch so we can see if it is float or solid state type or ? and where it is located.

Sounds like a faulty oil level switch. Will be a warranty issue, so you will need to contact a nearby Kohler Engine dealer for repairs.

Taking it in on Tuesday, local Cub Cadet warranty shop (Wohlfeils in Saginaw MI).. Still a bit miffed that the standard warranty from TC doesn't cover pickup/delivery (under 10 hours).. Pretty sure it'll be a faulty oil level sensor. TC is on the poop list for now, especially after I picked up new tires from them for the trailer I'll use to haul the mower. What a tangled web...

You are experiencing the classic dilemma of buying from a big box store(TSC, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.). They sell....but do NOT service ZTR's and you may have gotten a free pickup & delivery if you had bought from that dealer:0(
