Hello. I acquired a free YARDMAN (144W8) 50" 20 horse. There are some things I need help with.
How do I change the hydrostatic fluid & filter, and what kind of fluid do I use?
There are many opinions about this on the web but I hope someone here can help me.

Thanks! in advance..
Larry

What you need to know is in this manual. The oil change procedure is on page 7, and it calls for 10w40 and according to a service bulletin the 15w-50 is not recommended any more.

Holds 100 oz if I looked at it correctly.

thanx Mark. the 144w8 was enough info for me to go the the MTD dealer site, pull up the complete model number, found they only made one model with that number combination, which got me the Hydrogear model for the tranny, and it was all downhill from there.
