They may have the record length but they still haven't beat the record weight. The Florida State length Record 14 foot 3-1/2 inches. The Florida record for weight is a 1,043 pound (13 feet 10-1/2 inches long) male from Orange Lake in Alachua County.

Several stories about it are on AL.com. I think they are mounting it for public display. Pretty sure they will eat much of the meat.

I used to cross the Alabama river and the Tombigbee on hiway 10 in west Alabama when I drove a truck.......always thought something like that would be down there
