Just acquired a lightly used x304 with a 42 inch mulching deck I don’t want or need a mulching deck. What is needed to make this a non mulching side discharge deck. The operators manual says it uses a different blades on the left and right side. Will I need different blades to make this work.

If your 304 has the mulching deck the blades are timed and i believe counter rotating. You must use the correct left and right blades. You will have a hard time converting it to a non mulching machine.
