Now to my question. I just bought a Kohler Courage XT-7 from a garage sale for $20 (bargain) even though it is not working. It did not have a spark plug when i got it.
I put the new plug in, but it would not start. I am pretty sure that it is a carburetor problem. One weird thing that i noticed is that when i try to prime with the primer, i just hear it suck, but no gas goes into the carb. I have taken it apart as much as i am comfortable, and i did not notice anything wrong.
The primer on that engine doesn't push fuel, it pushes air into the carb bowl, which in turn helps force fuel into the venturi of the carb. There was a problem with the 07-09 made engines with the needle valve corroding leading to the valve either sticking open or closed. If you look real hard on the back of the engine, you will find the serial number if the number starts with 37,38,39 then most likely your engine was effected, and will need to replace the carb. Last track I had the carb was around $40.
I installed a new Carb, and that fixed the problem.
Thanks for the help.
$70 in and i have a nice self-propelled lawn mower.

Nice, sounds like a good deal to me. Earlier I had picked up a 2 year old Ariens with the same motor, it started first pull every time and had a pleasant tone. I got rid of it to avoid becoming a hoarder, but it was one of my favorites for sure. This one wouldn't start because of a stick in the throttle linkage.
