I received a hand me down Lawn Boy Model 10515.
I have a family friend mechanic look at it for me, so I completly
trust his work.
He said the Engine brake cable is very sticky.
He was able to pull the cable by hand using a wrench, and
the mower ran fine.
Only way to stop the mower was pull the plug wire using insulated plyers.
The other problem going in was the Traction control cable needs to be replaced.

So is there anyway to fix this engine brake cable?
Not sure if it is kinked or maybe rusted inside?

WD 40 or oil it possibly?
I think it has plastic wrapped around it.
Was thinking maybe stripping the plastic off and try
and soak it with WD40 or some other thing like that.

I guess I am cheap, but the replacement cable for the engine brake
is around $50.

Traction control is much more reasonable, and this cable has to be replaced.

Thanks in advance for anyones help for a newbie to this board......

If this was my mower and not restoring it for sale I'd bypass this devise. If you plan on selling someday - consider repairing it and then maintaining the cables..

Two stroke/ 4 stroke these devises need servicing.
Are they require to run the machine = no.
Are you 'liable' if anyone but you hurts themselves while running this machine 'YES'!

I should have said, oil the cable.

Nearly any oil will work. Penetrating oil will help free-up most sticky ones but not all stuck cables are salvageable.
If the cable is kinked it is pretty well toast.
There are cable specific lubes, they are better then 'any' oil because those oils wont hold dust and dirt. I'd imagine teflon and or other slippery additives.

Picked the mower up from the mechanic and spent some time looking at the engine brake cable.
I was able to get the cable to move in and out by pulling with plyers carefully.
The more I looked at it, when moving the bar at the handle that is supposed to move
the engine brake cable, nothing was happening on the front of the motor.
There was a large adjustment that was possible at the front of the motor, with the two nuts on the cable.
Was able to adjust it so the mower runs fine, and shuts off when bar is released at the handle.
Traction cable needs to be replaced as it is shot.
Happy with the mower being a push mower til I can get traction cable replaced, which is much more reasonable in price.

Thanks....
