Hello all a newbie here.
I just got a new to me 1973 Comet 3080, if I am reading the numbers right. I would appreciate help on that.
It is a model 3080 which I think is a 30 inch deck with a 8 hp engine. As far as I can tell these were only made in 1973.
The engine is a Briggs 190702 which has a code of 78021010 which I think means it is a 78 engine made on Feb 10. So it is not original AFAIK.
Got it for 100 and it doesn't have spark but it does have compression. Other than that it looks fairly complete.
Does anyone know the Magtronic coil that would fit this?
I cut a million miles of grass on this as a kid and it's a nostalgia thing. I would like to get it looking relatively correct for the year so if you see anything off dont hesitate to point it out.
thanks
Greg in North Ga

Yes A mag coil will work or you can take the flywheel off and sand the points with a emery board.... Almost every household has a few of those.....

Just a light touch will do it.....Or if you have some 600 grit paper and above.... I use 1200 grit and some people still say I am doing it wrong...... They just don't how many I have done in my lifetime of working on small engines........

The Mag coil has to be the same size as yours.... A coil from a 3 HP won't work.... 7 HP 8 HP 9 etc etc....

Let us know Mon Ami ~!~!
