New to forum and looking for a long lasting Zero Turn. scag or gravely???

I would love some input as I'm considering a Scag. I am a home owner with a rental property that I maintain and all together cut 1.5 acres on a regular basis. Some are telling me Gravely however I see Scags almost exclusively on commercial landscaping trailers. Looking at the Freedom 52 inch cut since I'm not a commercial customer. Am I going over board? Any input would be much appreciated.

Go Scag , you wont be sorry. Wish I had money for new one. You should still have it 10 years from now or longer.

I don't know your budget, but I had a neighbor that was looking at the Freedom Z and ended up stepping up to the Tiger Cat. He was very glad that he did that.

I've driven that Tiger Cat a little and it really is a heavy duty mower, but not as large or costly as the Turf Tiger. Also rides a little smoother.

The Freedom Z is more of a "homeowner" model, while the Tiger Cat has a few more commercial features.

Mackie might can tell you more specific differences.



Edited to add: I just saw the below thread comparing the Tiger Cat to the Freedom Z. As I predicted, Mackie was able to give specifics. It sounds like for a little extra money, you could get a lot more mower with the Tiger Cat.

Welcome to the Forum!.. If I had to choose between the 2 you mentioned it would be the Scag hands down.

Well, for comparative purposes I am a satisfied Gravely owner/fan:0)
The dealer where I purchased my 2012 52" Gravely Pro-Turn 100XDZ also carried the Scag ZTR's. I looked at both and they are both very well built high quality machines. If I had been spending your money I probably would own a Scag, but since I was spending mine it was a no-brainer to get just as good of quality(again, my opinion as well as the spec sheets) with a Gravely. The Scag Freedom 52" ZTR(ZT-3100 trannies) should be compared point-for-point to the Gravely ZT HD 52 ZTR(ZT-3100 trannies) and if you want a better(Commercial grade) ZTR, the Scag 52" Cheetah ZTR(ZT-3400 trannies) should be compared to the Gravely 52" Pro-Turn 100XDZ ZTR(ZT-3400 trannies). You will find some features/components a little better on one and some a little better on the other. I do not remember the "price comparisons"(the dealer doesn't show me Scag pricing online) that I made last fall, but I do remember that the Scags were "much more expensive" than the Gravely comparable models. The model Gravely I bought had a MSRP of $7199 for 2012 and is $7499 for 2013 and I think the ZT HD 52 is the same $5099 as it was last year. Since I was buying in the fall(a buyer's market) rather than spring(a dealer's market), I ended up getting a really good deal on mine for $6,800 out-the-door(approx. $1,000 less than MSRP plus taxes) and I've never looked back. No doubt choosing between these two ZTR's is not easy, but the price difference is worth your time to look very closely at both and make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck before pulling the trigger. Just sayin.....
