My yard had the sod placed in early December in Omaha NE, the sod was dormant, shortly after being laid the we got a hard freeze. Anyway the grass came through very well this spring the only bad spots are where the sod was laid over large weeds. I did put down scotts crab grass prevent starter fertilizer in the first of April. Grass is really green. I do plan on applying some more fertilizer in June. I am wondering if I use what scotts recommends or maybe a store brand like Ace nitrogen mix. The areas of the lawn where the water runs you cannot see the turf lines, I would say it will take a year for all the lines to disappear.

Do you have irrigation? How long is you preventer good for? How much fertilizer are you going to put down? How many pounds of nitrogen are you looking to put down in one full year? How hot are your summers? How often do you mow your grass and how short? Is lawn diseases a problem in your area? What type of grass did you lay? What does the sod company recommend? Your university? What kind of lawn are you looking to have?

Sod needs deep watering so the roots grow down. So water 5-10 mins wait 30 mins water 30-40 mins then don't water for a day or so makes the roots reach. You want fertilizer with high second and third numbers those are the root building numbers

Thanks for the advice. The sod was laid on basically clay soil, We have been getting rain every couple days for the last 2 weeks. The clay holds the moisture. 2 or 3 days after a inch rain the ground is still very soft, so soft its hard to push a mower on flat ground. I did some landscaping and had to remove some sod, the sod roots are getting into the soil below. I did apply some scotts turf builder this weekend. I do not plan to water for a while, I figure that should help the roots to get deeper to find the moisture.

General rule with sod, if you can grab the grass and lift the sod don't now yet. Sod usually gets super long before you cut it. Unless you use a weedeater. Just don't wanna drive a mower on it. You will get very uneven bumpy areas
