I bought a left over 2012 with bag, hitch and utility trailer and so far so good. I Only got 2 hours on it and I have been all through the machine and disconncected the reverse switch so I can cut in reverse. I bought it from a local dealer and he installed the exhaust kit so I don't burn my grass. So thanks I got the info from this forum. The dealer never had a complaint last year about burned grass and that Cub Cadet only does the fix upon complaint. About the reverse thing me being a gear head I truely believe that turning off the PTO then on again at full throttle can't be a good thing. I also engage the PTO below half throttle I don't know if it helps but I feel it's like dumping the clutch at full throttel just less pressure on things.

New owner of a 2013 rtz-s 42 here as well . I'd like to hear more about the mow in reverse part. There are a couple spots in my yard where that would be helpful .
And congrats on your new mower

Just reach up under the front decking where the reverse pedal is and unplug the wire connector, also you will notice a set of pair wires they are a power source for lights. I taped the end of the plug to make sure that it didn't ground out on the frame and no dirt got in. I then simple put the harness up above the front wheel and wire tied the slack up on the switch it self. Cutting in reverse is a beautiful thing.

I looked into this today , found the plug and unplugged it , a lil blue tape to keep it clean and checked it out . YIPPIEE mow in reverse !!!! It works !!!

Didn't like the loose wire or empty connector , it's new and don't want to void any warranty .
Figgered this out though ....
The switch that engages as soon as you touch the reverse pedal is only held on by one screw. A small wrench from the top will loosen said screw and allow it to be rotated. I moved it from about a 3 o'clock position to between 4 and 5 o'clock and re-tightened the screw. Pedal does not hit it so I plugged the connector back in , made sure there was nothing for the wires to rub on and no tape or zip ties needed !!!! Mow in reverse is good for the few spots I need it !!!!

I am glade everything worked out, take a look at your exhaust I would like to know if they did the up grade for 2013? You will have a heat shield under the exhaust and the nose will be about 3" long where the exhaust comes out. The 2012 did not have the heat shield and the nose was small. You can see pictures in an old post RZTS 46" Burned Grass of the upgrade on the last page..

Thanks
