Until now this style of edger could only be found in gas or corded electric models. Anyone who's used a cordless electric stick edger knows how fatiguing it is to hold up the handle with the added weight of the battery. Then, there's the constant wear on the blade as it contacts the concrete, since there's no edge protector. This new Ryobi solves both these problems, and in addition has a neat drop down wheel for edging along curbs. I've ordered one, and should have it in a couple of weeks.

Notice how the handle rotates into a vertical position when the drop down wheel is used on a curb, so you don't have to reach over towards the lawn when walking in the street. The handle height is also adjustable, which is a very nice feature for vertically challenged persons such as myself.
It's certainly true that my 60v GW is awkward. It's still better than a string trimmer. And now that I have added concrete pathways in my backyard, edging may be up to like a half mile or so....lol.
