new owner of used JS63, 6.5 OHV mower

Greeting to everyone!

Obviously, this is my first post and visit here, so I am looking forward to everyone's help and suggestions.

As the title says etc., I have only used it for a few hours and it has stopped running. It is also self-propelled with the bagging system. I pulled the spark plug, but other than a little dirty, it looked fine. I cleaned it and put it back. What happens is, I pump the fuel bulb a couple of times. It starts right up but only runs for a few seconds and shuts down. It will not start unless I pump the bulb again. I am trying to visit the guy who sold it to me, but he is not at home. He had several mowers for sale and is in the neighborhood, so I don't think he'll be a problem to talk to. I am just getting worried as the grass is getting tall and maybe someone here can give me a solution or two to tackle.
I work on my own cars, so being mechanical won't be a problem.

Yes, it has gas and I remembered to re-connect the spark plug:tongue:

you need to clean the caruretor out. the jet is clogged, take bowl off and proceed, watch youtube video on doing it good luck/

That did the trick. The carb was clean as far as I could see, no huge deposits. I used carb cleaner and it fired right up. I hope it lasts longer than two uses before it stops running again.

Any other possibilities if it stops running and won't start again?

Hello again,

Well, I found my old thread searching for the answer to the same question, with a twist;
I start the mower, it runs for about one second and then shut off. I have cleaned the carb again. What I found works, is that, as the engine runs and tries to stop, I pump the fuel bulb once and it keeps going. I keep doing this until it runs on its own, and it will continue run. Any ideas as to what causes this? I have not changed the plug yet, but I will get one today, just to rule it out.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!!

still sounds like a dirty carb if you can pump the bulb when its slowing down and it recovers for a bit get some carb soak take it apart and let it soak a few hours then spry and blow it off put it back together and see if that works
