I need a new engine for my cub cadet 1054. The engine is a Kohler ps sv 735 3002. My question is will any of the other ps sv 735 engines work for me? There are alot available with the 0012 or 0018 designations. I know they make this motor for many diferent mowers. I just need to know if anyone has tried to use one other than the 3002 on this mower and if so did they have to make any modifications.

Thanks

The most common differences between the courage engines is with or without fuel pump, and possibly the size of the charging system.

So if I needed to could I use these parts off of the old engine? And if so would it require much modification? My 78 year old father changed oil in this machine and didnt get the filter back on correctly. Needless to say after about 30 minutes he needs a new motor. It only had 70 hours on it. Thanks for your help.

Use can use the parts if you want. Something else to check is take a look at several engines in the courage class, sometimes a larger engine will be cheaper than the smaller engine. I had a customer last month toasted the courage on her kubota, Was looking for a replacement engine and found that the 20 was cheaper than the 18, and the one with the fuel pump was cheaper than the one without.

I was trying to get something as close as possible to the original. I can get a ps sv 735 0012 cheaper than the 3002. I just don't want to have to make many modifications. ex. mounting holes, shaft size, So I guess I am asking will the 0012 work on my mower without any modifications or do I need to spend the extra 400 and buy the 3002? Thank you for your help!

From my search it appears that the 0012 and 0018 specs a least used on the SV735 have 1" crankshaft diameter, and your 3002 has an 1 1/8" crankshaft.
