Guys, I am new here but have been searching the forums for the last few days. I have about 2 acres that I will be mowing all the time and am wanting a zero turn for both time and looks. I have looked at many different mowers and even been looking at the used market. I will admit up front that I do not know a ton about these zero turn mowers. For what I have looked at.

The Bad Boy mower from Tractor supply. I can get the 60" deck model for $4200 as a sale item left over from last year.

There are many different ones that Home Depot carries. I have looked at the Z-Beast, a Toro and Ariens that they have as well. All range in price from about $3500 to $5000.

Finally, there is a used Ferris ZT mower here that has a 25HP Kawasaki motor and a 61" deck. it has 962 hours on it and the guy wants $2500 for it. He seems pretty steady on price. I don't know if that is too many hours or not, but it does seem to be in good condition. Any ideas on what to look for on a used unit.

Anyway, that is what I have looked at so far. If any one can give me some advice on a residential model for around $4000, or if they think this Ferris is a good unit, I would greatly appreciate it.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Best advice I can give you is you get what you pay for. Please buy this large piece of equipment from a dealer. Would you buy a new car from someone who sells by volume and price? Also buy a good brand name, major manufacturer. Look and talk to the landscapers in your area, they will tell you the top sellers which can handle hard use. Personally I am partial to the Toro line. Value verses price. Look at it as buying a new car, shop, talk, test ride, and ask about what support you will get if something does go wrong.

If you are interested in Toro here's a site comparing the models New Toro Mowers. The TimeCutters can even be purchased online and shipped to you. If you want a Titan or Commercial mower send them a request for quote to see how low they can go. The catch on these though is you have to pick the mower up in their store.

You can buy a new mower and cut your lawn one time and it is used. From the list of choices you have given so far I would look hard at the used Ferris.

There is an Exmark Lazer Z 60" for $2600 on Ebay,it only has 3,441 hours!Thats a lifetime of mowing for me:laughing: thats sounds like some crazy hours for that kind of money even if it is an Exmark. In the last 9 years on my mower,I put on less than 300 hours.

I'd highly recommend the ferris, under 1000 hours is not bad and that's a pretty solid rate considering the machine brand new goes for around 15,000
They are quicker than most zero turns, and with the added suspension they are a more comfortable ride.

you should test drive a few before you make your decision so when you get on the ferris you can truly appreciate the suspension capabilities.

The TSC Bad Boyz ZTR has an electric actuator for the deck height adjustment. This is too slow and difficult to get back to the previous height setting. The foot pedal deck lifting type is much quicker to raise up to go over obstacles, and with a 60" wide deck there will be obstacles that you don't want to hit with the blades and or the deck !
