I have a Craftsman riding lawn mower. It has a 18hp Kohler engine model number CV492. I am replacing my fuel line and fuel filter this year and have a few questions.
1. If the lawn mower is gravity fed, how should the new line and fuel filter be set up?
2.Does it require a constant downward angle to the carburetor since it is gravity fed?
3. If so where on the new line should the fuel filter be place?
4. Does it matter where it is as long as it is somewhere between the fuel line?

Put the in-line filter where ever you would like. Make sure the Arrow on it is facing in the direction going to the carb.

Put the fuel filter in your mouth to lube it a bit, it will be a lot easier getting the fuel line slipped on.

I'm not a mechanic but I have had much experience working on my own equipment for many years as a lawn care professional. (Not that, that means Much!) LOL

I just replaced the fuel filter. I'm not sure if it was the problem with my lawn mower though. Before the fuel filter would be full when I would start mowing but about 20 minutes into mowing it would be dry. I checked online for filters and the one that seemed to be on their previously from the last time I had done some work looked just like the briggs stratton ones i saw. On the description of those filters it said they were for mower with a fuel pump. Is it likely that was the reason it was emptying since mine has no fuel pump and is gravity fed? If not then what could be causing the fuel filter to be not filling up? I have cleaned the carburetor already.
