New Addition 8243AE Starting Problem

Well i added a 1987 8243AE. It starts and runs great with the top start off one of my other late model F's. I purchased a new battery and charger and got it today. i tried to start it with the electric start and it will not fire off after several seconds of cranking with the key. i checked to see if it has spark with the electric start and it does. i took off both the coil and alternator and cleaned off the rust and still not starting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

i have one of them electric start f series i wish i could get rid of its harder then hell to get started

That's strange. You def have a gremlin as I like to say. Has to be in the wiring somewhere. Are you grounding the plug when you check for spark? I assume with the new battery it's turning enough rpms to start.

This may be obvious, but have you made sure the battery is fully charged? If it's rated at 12v, it should test at 13.5v (minimum).

i've leartned from previous experiance that electric start lawn boys start easier with the pull starter than the electric one, you can get more leverage and greater speed on the spin of the engine by hand, alot of times its faster and easier to pull start because electric starters have a tendancy to drag or to turn at about half the speed required to start the motor. I only like electric start on riders and 4 cycles:thumbsup:
