Need Wiring Help on Ariens 1742 EZR Mower Repower

I'm repowering my Ariens 1742 EZR mower, replacing the original single cyl, B&S 17HP engine (p/n 311777-0154 E1) w/ a twin cyl B&S 22HP (p/n 445777-0114 E1) engine from a lawn tractor. The original engine had a tri-circuit alternator (p/n 696497) and the replacement has a 10-16 amp regulated alternator system (p/n691185). Problem is I don't know how to hook up the wires from the replacement engine to the existing equipment harness on the EZR mower. I found a link to some B&S publication that says to modify the 692306 harness supplied with the replacement engine by splicing into the charging circuit wire and lighting circuit wire in the equipment harness with this "NOTE: THE DIODES MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE EQUIPMENT HARNESS". I'm unclear on how to tie in the harness attached to the replacement engine to the existing harness on the EZR mower. The replacement engine has a complete wire harness including the ignition switch. I need a step-by-step detailed instruction on how to hook up the electrics. I'd really appreciate the help! Thanks!

I would look at the possibility of just swapping the alternators, I have done that between Inteks and old L head twins before with success, Briggs has a few
thousand different part numbers for @ 10 different Alternators, but the voltages all depend on the number/size of the magnets on the flywheel, and the
alternator. Just take a look, could save you a whole lot of headaches and money.....
