need help with pull start gear

Hello new here. Have two lawnboys one is a model 7264 but all the digging Ive done has shown either 50000000 or 6000000 however mine doesnt have the 9 digit serial number and is in the 7000000 7 digit series main problem is that the gear that turns the engine from the pull start assembly is stripped and while searching for replacements online I am having a hard time locating something to match. Question 1 would be why does my model number not match the serial number provided through lawnboy and question 2 would be does anyone know the appropriate replacement number for the gear.

Lawn boy model 7264 uses a Lawn Boy D-601 engine. The pinion gear you need is Lawn Boy part number 607547.

In 1975 the serial number didn't mean a lot and you went mainly by the engine type. Attached is a website that you might enjoy. Remember you haves D-600 style engine.

awesome thank you so much both Lawn Boys I have run well minus a few broken parts and I didnt pay a dime for them and are good back up mowers so Id like to keep them going and I think that will help a lot thanks.
