i'm doing some work on a lawnboy 7261 for a guy at work. i'm having trouble installing the recoil. There is a wire on the back of the recoil that goes around the white gear. when i looked up the parts diagram its called a "spring". Its part number 18 in this diagram Parts and Diagrams for Lawn Boy 7261, Lawnmower, 1972 (SN 200000001-299999999) i'm having trouble figuring out where it goes when installing the recoil to the mower. any help would be great

Hey Eric -- welcome to the forum.

Part # 18 is a retaining clip -- that's what I'd call it. That recoil assembly has to be put together and the clip is then inserted to keep it from coming apart. [I hope this is correct. ]

Be careful -- wear eye protection when you work on these recoil assemblies -- the main spring (# 16) can fly apart and hit you.
