This may be a bit off topic, but it does have to do with small engine operation:
I have a 2004 Generac generator with a 10 HP Tecumseh engine on it. I couldn't get any instructions from Generac because the generator is too old. I entered Model 61306-0 in Generac's search field and it comes back with no results. The Serial Number for the generator is 6498574. Does anyone know the right way to install the Black air filter housing? The hosing has a vertical rectangular air intake opening (see photo) and the housing rotates about 15 degrees back and forth (it twists on the center carb screw). There is text on the recoil starter housing that say if it is above 32 degrees F, then rotate the air cleaner housing in one direction. If it's below 32 degrees F, then rotate it in the other direction (see 2nd photo). The only rational I can see is if the air intake is supposed to take warm air that came off of the warm muffler if it's cold. However, when I got the generator from my wife's Grandfather, the rectangular air intake opening was nowhere near the muffler. Does anyone on this forum know how the air filter housing is supposed to be installed on the engine and what the rational is for rotating it (in theory). Thanks! From Mike D'Amico in West Melbourne, Florida. PS: The generator was kept in a car port that was subject to irrigation mist from a sprinkler system, so the irrigation water ate through the paint and started rusting the metal parts. I'm keeping it inside my garage now since I got it working again.
